South Pole or the Midlands?

Last night, I caught a documentary, which was basically following an Antarctic explorer taking public transport across the Midlands. None of the train and bus services from the different companies connected, and about half were late.
He stood there at the end, and said semi-seriously that it had been easier getting to the South Pole. He looked exhausted and pissed-off.
It was the first time he had really tried to use public transport to get somewhere, and he was shocked and appalled.
