Imperial Salad

Just the other day I made a salad. I was chopping up some vegetables in the kitchen, and one of my flatmates came in, and said, 'What are you making?'
'A salad', I replied.
'Looks pretty good', they said.
'Thanks. I've never made one before.'
They eyed me suspiciously, trying to work out if this was the famous British sense of humour they had heard so much about.
'You have never made a salad before??'
'That's correct,' I said.
'Why not?'
'I never got round to it.'
They looked at me suspiciously again and departed from the kitchen.

The fact remains though, that I was indeed breaking my salad virginity, and to honour the occasion I named the salad 'Imperial Salad', due to the fact that I visited the Imperial War Museum on that day. In case any of you want to recreate Imperial Salad in your own homes, I give you now, absolutely free of charge, the recipe....

INGREDIENTS:

3 sticks of celery
2 tomatoes
1 orange pepper
1 red onion
4 spring onions
1 cucumber
1 dollop of Sainbury's garlic and herb salad dressing.

METHOD:
Chop up all the vegetables into quite small pieces. Place half in a bowl, and realise that you can't fit the rest in. Search for another bowl in vain, then place all chopped vegetables in a giant saucepan. Stir vegetables with a wooden spoon until noticing that it doesn't really mix them very well. Use your hands to mix the vegetables making sure a good percentage falls on the floor. Add a dollop of dressing.

Serves 1-4 people depending on how hungry you are.

The return of cooking Beaton?

Would you feel brave enough to attempt making the dressing?

I heard you are only eating salad these days, are you skinny Beaton these days
?

Well, I don't know about that - I think 'skinny' would be a vast stretch of the imagination!
It may seem like I only eat salad these days, but once a day is enough, or I'll turn into a rabbit. Having gone from an A.S.W (Average number of salads per week) of about 0.05 to about 6.5, it does kind of feel like I am eating salad all the time, but that must be due to the 1200% increase in salad consumption. I had Imperial Salad on toast today, it was very nice...

No no.

I think you'll find it was an Open Imperial Salad Sandwich.
